Precision injection molder Triformix Inc. acquired assets of the molded-optics business unit of JDS Uniphase Corp. in an Aug. 9 cash transaction. Triformix will reconfigure its 21,000-square-foot facility in Santa Rosa, Calif., which in about three months will receive 12 presses from Uniphase's Santa Rosa plant. The consolidation will give Triformix a total of 18 presses with clamping forces of 55-300 tons. The two operations specialize in different areas of the molded-optics marketplace, David Whitney, Triformix president and chief executive officer, in a telephone interview, said. Whitney operated Netra Corp. of Mountain View, Calif., which was acquired by Optical Coating Laboratory Inc. in 1995. Triformix makes optical components and semiconductor packaging for high-volume communication, digital imaging, peripheral and instrumentation products.
