ABSTRACT
This article presents information about the book "Civil Society in the Muslim World," edited by Amyn B. Sajoo. Muslim societies have begun increasingly to inquire into what culturally, religiously and socially relevant civic ideals might mean within their own highly diverse contexts. This book offer perspectives on many of the questions that engage the Muslim world today in the quest to delineate the form and substance of modern civil society. Patterns of political violence through the ages and some of the responses to them are discussed alongside themes of culture, civilization and the rule of law.
