This article presents news briefs on certifications as of August 2004. Sun Microsystems Inc. announced two new professional certifications and training programs in Java technology, the Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer for Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition and the Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services. Sun and its partners have certified and trained more than 800,000 IT professionals to date using Java technology in over 60 countries. With these latest certifications, Sun now offers learning and certification choices for seven career paths encompassing all three Java platforms. The firm Cisco announced that it is expanding its certification program to include Cisco Qualified Specialist programs focused on storage networking. The new Cisco Storage Networking Design Specialist and Cisco Storage Networking Support Specialist certifications will help IT professionals develop the knowledge and skills needed to design, deploy and support highly scalable, distributed storage environments based on converged architectures for single offices, remote sites or enterprises. MySQL, a popular open-source database, has released MySQL Professional Certification, which enables developers, systems administrators and database administrators to prove they have mastered the complex management issues of MySQL Server.
