Unstoppable Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. remains the heavy hitter in the beer category, significantly ahead of its next competitor, Miller Brewing Co. With record U.S. sales volume in 2003, St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch has proven itself responsive to trends; it introduced low-carb Michelob Ultra and Bacardi Silver Low Carb Black Cherry, and released an advertising campaign emphasizing Bud Light's historically low-carb content. The category management approach provides solutions that meet the retailers overall category objectives, not by focusing solely on things that will grow sales for Anheuser-Busch products.
