Black Buying Power

According to the Selig Center for Economic Growth at The University of Georgia, the black buying power in the U.S. is projected to reach $921 billion in 2008. That marks a 189 percent increase over the last 18 years, outstripping both the increase in white buying power and total buying power. Nationally, African-American consumers account for almost 9 cents out of every dollar that is spent, and $2 out of every $3 spent by minorities. About 80 percent of African-Americans have earned at least a high school diploma and 65 percent are in the labor force, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
