ABSTRACT
The Institute of Management Services Council of Management at its January 2004 meeting gave consideration to producing a plan designed to ensure the future of the Institute and guarantee it remained the leading body dedicated to propagating the concept of productivity improvement as it has done since 1944. The Institute membership profile indicates an aging membership that must inevitably result in a declining membership base. It is also becoming expensive to produce the monthly journal 'Management Services.' With these facts in mind, the Institute's Council of Management has set about considering the membership fee structure, administration, education system, journal and Web site. Council of Management has determined that the key strategy for the future of the Institute must be its membership fee structure. The Council has decided to recommend to the membership a step with regard to the future structure of Institute membership fees. To move towards a life membership structure would greatly benefit the membership, as they would no longer pay annual membership fees. It is anticipated that the annual life fee plus the financial reserves will ensure the future viability of the Institute. The system would bring about savings in the administration costs, as the organization would no longer be collecting annual membership fees. The changes that Council wish to introduce will require the approval of the membership.
