ABSTRACT
SharpFind 5 from Sharp is the 2004 version of its off-the-shelf electronic document management package for businesses of all sizes. This release adds functions including full color and grey scale supporting the storage of all hardcopy and electronic documents in a central repository and a robust optical character recognition engine enabling the fast search and retrieval of documents. It also supports a variety of languages and includes 64 bit indexing technology to enable larger document collections to be made. Based on ZyLAB technology, the package allows organizations to scan documents into the electronic archiving system from any networked Sharp digital printer/copier and then use the user interface to search, recover and distribute materials as and when required. The package's retrieval capabilities are enhanced by the fuzzy logic advanced search feature which works pretty well in finding words on documents even if they are spelled incorrectly or the quality of the document is poor. The system also has a useful full-text retrieval feature, automatically archiving every word in stored documents to a general index. This means the index is optimized to allow access to all documents containing a particular expression or word. SharpFind 5 is a scalable solution to accommodate business growth and any directives undertaken to support the effective delivery of process management. Three versions of the SharpFind server have been introduced-- namely, WorkGroup Server for smaller business units, Departmental Server and Enterprise Server. The last two allow remote access to the system via dial-up or web browser connections. The enterprise version also allows users to manage contents held on the archiving solution. Everything is based on an open XML framework so can easily be integrated with other major office, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management and document management applications.
