Reports that researchers at the University of British Columbia have designed a device that stabilizes cardiac tissue during open-heart surgery and avoids cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. Details on the HeartStabilizer, conceived by Doctors Sam Lichtenstein and Kassem Ashe; Design work which was done by Dr. Tim Salcudean and graduate student Terrence Gilhuly.
