ABSTRACT
National Instruments (NI) introduced the Version 7.1 of the computer software, LabView. The Web site of NI has the complete list of Version 7.1 features. According to Ray Almgren, the company's vice president of product marketing, developers of embedded hard-real-time systems are most likely to notice the changes. For example, this release extends NI-DAQmx measurement-services technology for hardware drivers, which was new in Version 7.0, to large numbers of modules and instruments for real-time control. Also, for the first time, the LabView Real-Time software module supports certain low-cost, mass-produced, third-party-manufactured desktop personal computers as hardware targets for real-time operating system-based real-time applications. The combination of the lower cost hardware and the user-friendly graphical-application-development environment provides a dual incentive to use LabView on real-time projects. Prices of Version 7.1 start at $995.
