ABSTRACT
This article reports on a case of clinical illness in a 40-year-old HIV-infected man who experienced 5 discrete episodes of "unexplained" multisystem illness over a 3-year period before developing acute respiratory distress syndrome and succumbing to pulmonary hemorrhage. The patient had a history of cutaneous Kaposisarcoma treated with liposomal doxorubicin therapy. He had been treated with HAART for 4 years; his CD4 cell count was stable, and his virus load was usually <400 copies/mL. The patient experienced four additional episodes of unexplained multisystem illness during the next 3 years.
