The primary aim of the study was to investigate effects of leptin on acidified ethanol (AE) and indomethacin induced gastric lesions in the rat and compare it with ranitidine, lansoprazole and omeprazole and secondly to determine whether prostaglandins E2 are involved in their actions. Leptin inhibited gastric ulcer formation induced by AE and indomethacin. The ulcer preventing ability of leptin involves activation of the cyclooxygenase and/or nitric oxide pathways.

The present study aimed to assess the effects of Leptin on physical and psychological stresses inducing gastric ulcer. The potential role of endogenous nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in the effects of Leptin on the gastric ulcer in rats are also investigated. In this study,...

Abstract. Aim:  To evaluate the effect of inhibiting inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), by aminoguanidine, or leukocyte infiltration, by fucoidin, on gastropathy induced by two different doses of indomethacin in rats. Methods:  Rats were treated with saline, aminoguanidine...

Ultraviolet-B-induced erythema (one, two, or four times the minimal erythema dose) was reduced but not abolished by application of 1% indomethacin gel immediately after irradiation of human skin. Continuous synthesis of prostaglandins is reflected by similar levels of indomethacin-mediated...

Recent evidence suggests that besides its action on the central nervous system, leptin can modulate vascular tone through local mechanisms involving nitric oxide (NO) release. In this study, using a fluorescent probe for direct determination of NO, we demonstrated both in endothelial cells and...

Rationale. Our previous studies have shown that the inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis with drugs administered either by systemic or ICV routes blocks the development of tolerance to some of the effects of ethanol. Objectives. The aim of this study was to further investigate the role of...

Background: Tumour necrosis factor α (TNF-α is involved in non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug induced gastropathy. Nitric oxide (NO) is a mediator of gastrointestinal mucosal defence but, paradoxically, it also contributes to mucosal damage. Aims: We optimised the C57BL/6 mouse model of...

The aim of study is to investigate effects of orotic acid (OA) on phenylephrine-induced contraction of rat thoracic aorta and its antioxidative activity. Results showed that the OA exhibited maximal vasorelaxation in dose-dependent manner with ED50 of 3.16x10-7 M, but the effect was less than...
