The primary aim of the study was to investigate effects of leptin on acidified ethanol (AE) and indomethacin induced gastric lesions in the rat and compare it with ranitidine, lansoprazole and omeprazole and secondly to determine whether prostaglandins E2 are involved in their actions. Leptin inhibited gastric ulcer formation induced by AE and indomethacin. The ulcer preventing ability of leptin involves activation of the cyclooxygenase and/or nitric oxide pathways.

Objective and design: The role of NO and adipocytokines in childhood obesity was studied, supposing that obesity provokes inflammation. Children were admitted to the pediatric clinic for a regular check up because of obesity. Subjects: Obese ( n = 79) and healthy ( n = 12) children were selected...

Aberrantly activated macrophages, which overproduce inflammatory mediators, are involved in the pathogenesis of many inflammatory diseases. We analyzed the anti-inflammatory activity of lansoprazole (LPZ), a typical proton pump (P-ATPase) inhibitor, on RAW264.7 murine macrophages. Treatment of...

The etiology of intussusception (IN) remains largely obscure. In lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced IN, an experimental model in mice, IN is considered to be the consequence of altered intestinal motility as a result of increased nitric oxide (NO) along various inflammatory mediators. These could...

The present study aimed to assess the effects of Leptin on physical and psychological stresses inducing gastric ulcer. The potential role of endogenous nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in the effects of Leptin on the gastric ulcer in rats are also investigated. In this study,...
