ABSTRACT
Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is the treatment of choice for many large, sessile colorectal adenomas. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility and safety of the EMR for large colonic lesions. By applying this technique, clinical clearance was achieved in 89% of all patients. Although piecemeal resection is associated with higher recurrence rates, almost all recurrence was treated successfully at follow up endoscopy. Several repeat endoscopies may be required for some cases and long term follow up may be required to ensure complete clearance is achieved. EMR continues to be the treatment of choice for the removal of large sessile adenomas.
