One tactic taken by some retailers has focused on "womenfriendly" products, as manufacturers are reaching out to mothers and working women with better packaging and easier-to-use products, particularly in the cleaning area. Some convenience stores with car washes feature vending machines in this area with items such as air fresheners and carpet cleaners, or even small auto departments inside the store. As more c-stores look to the car wash as a source of profit, this could increase. Following close behind is the phone cards and prepaid telecommunications segment at $567 million. Smoking accessories may be getting a lift from the solid sales of other tobacco products.
