ABSTRACT
The book "The SQL Server 2000 Book," by A. Sequiera and B. Alderman opts to cover four chunks of SQL Server knowledge: planning, installing, administering and optimisation. The emphasis is not so much on the philosophical basis of SQL Server or on actual database development as on practical approach. One nice thing about the way these writers go about hitting that target is through "decision trees." These provide logical overviews and decompositions of key tasks, such as choosing the right installation method. This is often much more useful than a slavish listing of 20 screen grabs, as it provides an insight into the semantics of the task, not just the syntax.
