Staff at Scottish whisky maker Glenmorangie PLC are taking the ECDL qualification, using e-learning to get around the problems caused by spread-out sites and shift work. Most of the distillery employees do not use PCs at work, so the course gives them the chance to improve their IT skills. In the past, the company has used classroom training, but found it difficult to find the right location and give staff enough free time. The e-learning content is stored on the intranet at the company's Broxburn distillery, and can be accessed in learning centres at each site.
