A Scottish scheme that uses e-learning materials to support the teaching of Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications in computer studies is being piloted in Cumbria and could be extended to other English counties. The Scholar programme is designed to be used alongside traditional teaching, and can be studied by pupils in free periods at school or at home. The course material was developed at Heriot-Watt University, and is now run by a commercial offshoot, Interactive University.
