Comments made by Brigadier General Janis Karpinski on the abuse of Iraqi prisoners; Report by Amnesty International that as early as July 2003, former detainees in Iraq said they suffered beatings, sleep deprivation or other abuses; Deaths of prisoners in U.S. custody that were declared homicides; Statement that one of the goals of the detention centers is to break the prisoners' will by exposure to fear, shame, disorientation, exhaustion and physical pressure; Report that six U.S. soldiers face criminal charges for abusing prisoners; Claim by a lawyer for one of the defendants that the military is scapegoating the six soldiers; Possibility that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency was involved in the alleged brutality.
