ABSTRACT
The article reports on the introduction of the CILT (UK) Meritorious Service Award by the Institute of Logistics and Transport in May 2004. The award aims to recognize sustained service on the part of a member to the institute. In 2003, as a result of its work on other awards, it became clear to the Remuneration and Awards Committee of the institute that it should have a means of recognizing members who have made a sustained voluntary contribution to the activity of the institute. As a result, the CILT (UK) Meritorious Award has been announced. Its title incorporates the institute's new name. Criteria to the award will be sustained service to the institute through a region, group, forum, faculty, or other local group. Essential qualifications for recognition include a record of continuous membership extending to 15 years and beyond, and a demonstrable record of support to the running of committees and events exceeding 12 years. The authority to put forward nominations is vested in Region and Faculty Chairmen and others who will submit them for consideration by the institute's Remuneration and Awards Committee in April and October each year. Awards in the form of a certificate will be announced biannually every December and June.
