ABSTRACT
The article discusses about general management of patients with respiratory problems. Patients whose oxygen saturation is 92% or less while breathing air should be treated with oxygen given bynasal cannulue, head box, or face mask to maintain oxygen saturation above 92%. Agitation may be an indication that the child is hypoxic. Intravenous fluids, if needed, should be given at 80% basal levels and serum electrolytes monitored. Chest physiotherapy is not beneficial and should not be performed in children with pneumonia. Antipyretics and analgesics can be used to keep the child comfortable and to help coughing.
