ABSTRACT
It comes as no surprise that consumers most likely to be fans of the baseball team Milwaukee Brewers indexed the highest among those most likely to drink regular domestic beer. The light beer distinction belonged to the folks in the greater El Paso, Texas. The measure of consumer affluence and how it relates to beer seems to jive with the trading-up phenomenon, as ales and porter/stouts indexed 192 and 177, respectively. On the opposite end of the spectrum, malt liquor indexed 229 among the poor and only 45 among the affluent. Full-time workers seemed likely to put a bit of their disposable income toward beer, as they were 9 percent more likely than the national average to consume the beverage.
