ABSTRACT
This article focuses on a study by U.S. researchers published in the 2004 issue of the "Journal of American Medical Association," according to the which, varicella vaccine effectiveness reduced after first year. Researchers assessed 339 children aged 13 months or older who had been diagnosed with chickenpox but had also been vaccinated against varicella-zoster as of February 23, 2004. Although the vaccine was 97 per cent effective in the first year, this dropped to 84 per cent in subsequent years. If given to children below 15 months old it was only 73 per cent effective in the first year.
