When producer Oliver Stone began production last year of his movie on Alexander the Great, he appeared to deal a mortal blow to the rival Alexander project developed by producer Dino De Laurentiis. Warner Bros. Pictures Inc. will release Stone's "Alexander" on November 5, 2004. But in the book "Dino: The Life and Films of Dino De Laurentiis," just out from Miramax Books, film critics Tullio Kezich and Alessandra Levantesi report that De Laurentiis has not abandoned his movie "Alexander." This article presents an excerpt from the book where Kezich and Levantesi recount the producer's long campaign to bring "Alexander the Great" to the screen.
