ABSTRACT
This article reports that the European Commission has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from 25 to 36 percent on polyester staple fiber imports from Inida. The duties clamped after a petition filed by the apex body for European manufacturers, will mostly affect companies such as the Reliance, the Indian Organic Chemicals and the JCT among others. The commission has said in its disclosure document that India's share of exports to the European Union jumped from less than one percent in 1996 to 2.9 percent in 1999. It has also observed that the consumption of polyester staple fiber in Europe increased by 29 percent, while domestic sales dropped by two percent during the sample period, indicating a clear case of dumping.
