ABSTRACT
This article presents developments related to investment banking in the telecommunication sector. Swisscom AG is near a deal to sell Debitel AG, the German mobile telephone service provider, to Permira Advisers Ltd., the British private equity firm. The company is expected to fetch about $912 million, a tenth of what the Swiss company paid for it five years ago. Deutsche Telekom AG and Vodafone have to agree to the sale because Debitel uses their networks. Ericsson Inc. is increasing its stake in Symbian Ltd., the leading maker of software for smart phones, to help prevent Nokia from gaining a majority stake in the company.
