The article reports on the competition between various book publishers in the United States. Random House and Penguin Group are neck-and-neck in the "New York Times" nonfiction hardcover category. New York-based Simon & Schuster Inc. is the dark horse placing seven titles on the list for 25 weeks so far. Penguin's newly formed Penguin Press imprint has produced two "New York Times" bestsellers so far--Steve Coll's "Ghost Wars," an examination of the CIA's role in Afghanistan over the past 25 years, and the business bestseller "The Carolina Way," by former University of North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith and business guru Gerald Bell with John Kilgo.
