Retirees from Iowa PERS hit by cybertheft; 100+ affected

The article reports on the breach of more than 100 accounts of retiree at the Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS) in Des Moines in October 2017. According to a statement from the pension fund, criminals using stolen birth dates and Social Security numbers registered for online account access of IPERS where they altered direct deposit information and the benefit payments were redirected to a different financial institution.
