ABSTRACT
Simon Reeve heads off on the second leg of his spectacular journey through this vast and surprising country. He begins in Siberia, on the shores of Lake Baikal — the oldest and deepest lake on Earth — before joining parade to remember the 25 million from the Soviet Union who died during World War II. Then, Simon (pictured) hops aboard the iconic Trans-Siberian Baik lak a 2UW t Railway, heading west to Krasnoyarsk to eat at the country's most patriotic cafe — a shrine to President Putin where you have to wipe your feet on the American flag on the way in. Finally, after encountering Tuvan throat singers and Cossack street patrols, it's on to the largely Muslim region of Dagestan.
