We report on time-resolved spectroscopy from the ultraviolet to mid-infrared spectrum of low-frequency collective excitations: dispersion and anisotropy of amplitude mode and phase mode in quasi-one-dimensional charge-density wave conductors, K[sub 0.3]MoO[sub 3] and K[sub 0.33]MoO[sub 3]. Our results show that the time-resolved optical technique provides momentum resolution of collective modes. © 2004 American Institute of Physics.

The interaction of linearly and circularly polarized beams with a nematic liquid crystal doped with light-absorbing dyes has been studied by light-diffraction and microprojection methods. It has been found that there is a threshold for the emergence of light-induced anisotropic structures,...

We demonstrated a nonvolatile grating using an azobenzene polymer film with polarized two color beams. The reorientation of azobenzene molecules can be optimized when the two color light beams are polarized perpendicularly. The stored information can be read repeatedly without volatility with...

Polarization-induced torque of a radially polarized beam is investigated on anisotropic micro-particles. Radially polarized beams possess full cylindrical symmetry; therefore, any line drawn from the beam axis to the circumference contains identical polarization vectors, acting locally as...

The problem of anisotropic Bragg diffraction of nonpolarized light by a slow acoustic wave in a TeO[sub 2] crystal is solved. Two independent acoustic waves are excited in the crystal. Polarization-resolved vibrational pump-probe experiments are useful for measuring the dynamics of molecular reorientation. The rotational anisotropy observable is usually modeled by the second-Legendre-polynomial time-correlation function of the appropriate molecule-fixed unit vector. On the...
