A miniature x-ray tube is described. The tube is made of Kovar, inside which a grounded target is located close to a field-electron emitter consisting of aligned carbon nanofibers, which continues to work for around 100 h in the 10[sup -6] Pa region unless arcing is induced between the electrodes. The resolution of the contact x-ray images provided by the tube would be impossible using the existing techniques of conventional x-ray radiography, whether the sample is biological or nonbiological. © 2004 American Institute of Physics.

A microfocus x-ray tube that can generate x rays with the focal spot size less than 5 μm has been demonstrated using carbon nanotube (CNT) field emitters. A CNT cathode on a sharp tungsten tip, a magnetic solenoid lens, and a transmission-type x-ray target were adopted for the microfocus...

Gold-tin (Au-Sn) solder and Kovar alloy have been widely used in many fields such as mechanical engineering, atomic energy industry, aerospace facility, and electronic devices. Solder bonds strongly to the metallized substrate by forming intermetallic compounds (IMCs) at the interface. The IMC...

The aim of the study was to investigate how patient effective doses vary as a function of X-ray tube projection angle, as well as the patient long axis, and quantify how X-ray tube current modulation affects patient doses in chest CT examinations. Chest examinations were simulated for a gantry...

The practical peak voltage (PPV) was introduced with special emphasis being placed on the X-ray tube voltage range pertinent to diagnostic radiology, i.e. from 20 kV to 150 kV. In this paper, an extension of the range of definition of the PPV up to X-ray tube voltages of 300 kV is presented....

The impact of different methods of composite anode tungsten layer processing on X-ray tube radiation intensity is discussed. The results of the analysis of tungsten layer surface samples studied by various methods are reported. The results of the X-ray tube radiation intensity measurement are...

The effect of carbon content on thermal properties of cast superinvar alloys subjected to two-stage annealing is studied. It is shown that carbon improves the casting properties of the alloys but raises the temperature coefficient of linear expansion (CTLE). Two-stage high-temperature annealing...

Reducing the Radiation Dose in Multi Slice Computerized Tomography MSCT/CT is a significant concern. The Non-Linear Bilateral Filter BF was proved to have the property of de-noising digital images without jeopardizing the fine structures. This paper tests the BF performance on low dose CT by...
