ABSTRACT
This article discusses the results of a survey conducted by the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board, which investigated planner confidence toward mutual funds. Six in ten CFP professionals reported that they are less confident than before in the U.S. markets. In contrast, nearly nine in ten of CFP clients were less confident. To help restore confidence, 90 percent of planners support enforcing the deadline for investors to receive that day's closing price, 73 percent advocated proposals for increasing inspection and disclosure requirements for hedge funds, and 60 percent supported greater disclosure of mutual funds' brokerage commissions and expenses. Nineteen percent of planners were least impressed with the idea of creating a private mutual fund oversight board.
