ABSTRACT
LinkOut works in an ancillary way to PubMed, a principally biomedical bibliographic database produced by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), located at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in Bethesda, Maryland. LinkOut provides links from within PubMed records to external resources. For libraries, this translates into customized links that display in the form of click-through icons. These icons inform users that they will be able to access the full text at their computer, or read the article in print at the library, or in some cases do both.
