This article presents information on the new wireless multi-mode device developed by SMC Networks, as of February 2004. SMC aims to provide the ultimate in easy and fast wireless connectivity so the adapter installs and communicates without drivers. It can be configured to serve as a wireless access point to provide network access to other wireless devices, as a repeater to extend the range of a wireless network and as a wireless adapter to connect virtually any Ethernet-capable device into a network. Plugging it in sets it up to communicate in infrastructure mode with any wireless client. It provides an entry point for other wireless clients to access the network. It also incorporates PRISM Nitro technology, which provides up to 50% more throughput in g-only networks and up to 300% more in mixed-mode.
