ABSTRACT
This article reports on slump in the export market of Great Britain. According to the latest NatWest/Small Business Research Survey of Exporters, export confidence amongst the Great Britain's smaller firms has plunged a low point. The balance of exporters who say that they are "more optimistic" has fallen to two percent, the lowest since the survey began in 1992. The pound has continued to perform strongly against major European currencies. Profitability of exports has dropped significantly and the balance of firms reporting increased profitability has fallen to minus 37 percent. The larger firms have seen profitability fall the most, but they have maintained the volumes of their exports by cutting prices and reducing margins. David Etherington, head of corporate business development at NatWest said, the results of the survey, and the falling export sales relative to home sales, has made the most dramatic set of figures recorded since the surveys began in 1992.
