ABSTRACT
A review and analysis of the case management arid primary nursing literature reveals distinct differences between nursing care delivery systems such as primary and team nursing, and case management. Direct patient care delivery in the acute-care setting does not fit the traditional definition of case management and to use the term in acute care causes confusion. Primary nursing with managed care, modified primary nursing with managed care or team nursing with managed care better defines the services provided by the nurse providing direct patient care in the acute-case setting.
