ABSTRACT
This article reports that at its meeting on may 23-24, 2001, the Institute of Logistics and Transport Council considered proposals put forward by the Republic of Ireland branch that it should integrate with the Chartered Institute of Transport (CIT) in Ireland to form a new institute in the country, to be known as the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Ireland. The institute members in Eire and those in the CIT in Ireland, have come to recognize that there are limitations in the present arrangements that are a constraint on their professional growth in Ireland. Furthermore, they feel that the new approach being taken by the CIT to become the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport provides a unique opportunity to develop a strong new focus for professionals in logistics and transport in Ireland in the shape of a new institute.
