ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the Best Practice Guide that was published by the Accreditation Group of the Institute of Logistics and Transport, and contains information on Web sites which can be of use to transportation management practitioners. It was in 1998 that the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions asked the institute to establish an accreditation group that will assess and accredit transportation-related Internet sites. The development of best practice, has been pursued by means of a tripartite package of measures. These are a through a workshop directed principally at the technical delivery aspects of site provision, a comprehensive review of public transport information sites to identify, understand and promote best practice in order to make substantial progress quickly, and a seminar directed at the transport industry's decision-makers aimed at ensuring widespread uptake of the accreditation scheme and the messages given in the guide.
