ABSTRACT
The Institute of Management Services (IMS), Great Britain, is the body for "Qualified Specialists for Improving Productivity, Performance and Quality." This has not changed during the lifetime of the profession and it can be seen how they are so vitally linked in the context of successfully managing a business. Governments can create conditions favorable to the efforts of employers and workers to raise productivity. As experts in the field of productivity, the IMS should be offering support within the framework of economic and productivity policy, which emphasizes the quality and innovation of the outputs and processes, rather than just cost-cutting on the side of the inputs.
