ABSTRACT
The British taxation system is suffering under the weight of its own complications and this could have a negative effect on the fast expanding world of e-commerce. The government is committee to ensuring that business in Great Britain is able to benefit from the changes taking place and to achieve its goal of creating the best environment in the world in which to trade electronically in 2002. However, there are problems with the taxation of e-commerce. These concern the identification of traders and their place of business, access by the authorities to information about transactions, and verification.
