ABSTRACT
This article reports on the visit made by the members of the Birmingham and Coventry branch of the Institute of Logistics and Transport to the BMW engine plant at the Hams Hall in Coleshill. A very comprehensive presentation of the BMW supply chain and project background was followed by the issue of radio headsets in preparation for a tour of the plant. The group was taken to a holding warehouse and to the assembly lines. The plant was described as capable of producing 400,000 engines a year, though throughput is clearly nowhere near that yet.
