This article reports on the launching of the Freedom to Fly Coalition which took place in January 2002. The coalition is a broad-based campaign bringing together air users, business, tourism, trade unions, airlines and airports backing plans for long-term growth to meet rising demand. The demand argues that without more capacity the result will be more delays, higher prices and less choice for the public. The results of a poll which support the broad principles of the coalition were also presented. 76 percent of people believe that air travel should be allowed to grow to match rising consumer demand but with proper regard for the environment. 85 percent of people believe that air travel helps boost the economy, jobs, tourism and inward investment in Great Britain. Nine out of ten people have travelled before by plane and eight out of ten hope to fly as often as more frequently in the future.
