ABSTRACT
This article presents a report on the transportation- and business logistics-related development in Asia, as of March 2002. A statement from a high ranking official about the importance of logistics to the development of the Chinese economy was presented. It was seen here that there is really a desperate need for operational expertise. Because of the language issues, much of the outside assistance to Chinese companies and organizations tends to come from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and to a lesser extent, Singapore. The author suggests that the retail business model used by Great Britain, actually fits the developing Chinese market quite well. The author suggests that if there are any young undergraduates out there who are studying logistics or retailing and who might find the challenges of China an interesting prospect, they should perhaps consider learning Chinese as their second subject at university. The developments in logistics and transportation in Thailand were also discussed in this article.
