ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Association of Community-Rail Partnerships has launched a new service for parish and town councils in England with the start of 2002. It is called the 'Parish Platforms and is an advice and information service on railroad issues targeted at parish and town councils. The program will offer a free advice service to councils that have ideas, projects or concerns about any railroad-related matter. A particular focus of the project is to encourage and assist councils in applying for Parish Transport Grant, a new initiative by the Countryside Agency which gives councils up to 10,000 pounds for transport-related projects. In addition, if councils have bigger schemes in mind, the program can provide advice on other funding possibilities, including the Rural Transport Partnership and Rail Passenger Partnership funds.
