ABSTRACT
The section presents updates on the different issues and exhibitions concerning the logistics and transportation industries in Great Britain as of February 2004. The first meeting of the Construction Supply-Chain Forum has taken place in Glasgow, Scotland. The Forum is designed to support members who work within the construction industry or who are suppliers of goods and services to the industry. Whilst companies have been assimilating the techniques, there is no home for construction supply-chain professionals, no place where the professionals can meet on a regular basis and share problems, hear presentations on best practice and interact and network with other logistics and transport professionals who may have solved similar problems before. The Transport Planning Forum organized a workshop with the British Department for Transport on regional transport planning. The problems perceived about resources led to mismatching ad confusion between aspirations and funding. This led to a lack of public engagement and involvement in sustainable solutions on the one hand and to a lack of appropriate project management skills without sufficient resources to bridge the gap on the other.
