ABSTRACT
According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), children aren't getting enough calcium, which is essential for building bone mass and growing healthy first teeth. Nearly all bone mass is built before the age of 17 and maintaining healthy bones ensures that a child can partake in the action-packed activities of daily school life. Unfortunately, nearly half of all the U.S. children under 5 years of age don't get enough calcium. NIH recommends that children between 4 to 8 years take in 800 milligrams of calcium per day-about two servings of milk, cheese, or calcium-rich leafy greens.
