ABSTRACT
This article focuses on a study regarding a clinical prediction rule to identify patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and a low risk for stroke while taking aspirin, published in the 2003 issue of the journal "Archives of Internal Medicine." 2501 patients with nonvalvular AF were examined for this study. Recursive partitioning methods were used to identify patients in the derivation group with low risk for stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). Three distinct prediction rules were derived and tested in the validation group. One rule identified patients in the validation group with low stroke or TIA risk and was selected.
