Reports on the launching of the Universal Home Application Programming Interface (UH-API) initiative by Royal Philips Electronics and Samsung Electronics on January 12, 2004. Aim of the initiative to provide an application programming interface standard for the creation of middleware and application software; Plan of Samsung to introduce the standard to its high definition television chipsets; Statement from Leon Husson, executive vice president of Philips consumer business, on the importance of the creation of UH-API in continuing innovation in electronic products and systems.
