ABSTRACT
OUTSIDE my kitchen window is a camellia loaded with hundreds of big fat buds that are getting ready to burst open. A brave, lone bloom usually appears early in the New Year, followed by sporadic flowering over winter. The tree reaches its peak in spring, when it's smothered with large pink flowers.
