ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the 2003 fiction paperback bestseller list of the "New York Times." John Steinbeck's East of Eden was a No. 1 bestseller for seven weeks in 2003, following its recommendation by television personality and corporate mogul Oprah Winfrey. Penguin Group touted the book as "the book that brought Oprah's book club back" on the paperback's cover. John Grisham's "The Summons" spent six weeks at No. 1, while his book The Runaway Jury, which had a motion picture tie-in, was a top seller for one week. "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel sold more than 1 million copies.
