Minnesota is known for its many glistening lakes, its cold winters, and its hardy residents. Most Minnesotans have ancestors from northern Europe. Members of several other ethnic groups live in the state. Latinos make up about 3 percent of Minnesota's population. About 3.4 percent of Minnesotans are African American, and about 3 percent are Asian American. Though no longer Minnesota's main industries, farming and mining are still important to the state. Service jobs, most of which have developed since World War II, create about 61 percent of Minnesota's income and employ most of the state's workers.
