ABSTRACT
This article reports that many business organizations can develop Web sites and a number of first-rate third-party logistics service providers also exist for the aspiring Internet trader to use. This article argues that the key is integrating these two aspects of the total supply chain with the organization's internal business processes. The problem facing organizations that plan to trade on the Internet and those with a transactional Web site can be solved in at least three ways. First, a retailer can outsource the integrated process to a one-stop shop that is capable of providing the complete service, from Web site design, integration with a commerce platform and order fulfillment. Another route for an organization to buy in the services and necessary skills from a range of specialist companies to span the end-to-end process, such as Web site designers, systems integrators and logistics service providers. The final approach to successful Internet trading is that of partnering with an organization that already has the skills and has gained experience in using them to good effect.
